Best Comedy Clubs in Los Angeles County

Information about some of the best and most popular comedy clubs in the city of Los Angeles and other parts of Los Angeles County, organized by neighborhood. Note that the most popular of these clubs fill up fast, and tickets purchased at the door can be more expensive, so advanced tickets are recommended. The best way to get guaranteed seating is to purchase the more expensive VIP tickets, offered by some clubs in advance. Another way to get the best seats and guaranteed seating at a club with an attached restaurant is to make dinner reservations in advance and ask if those reservations will also get you preferred seating in their comedy showroom. Admission to the comedy clubs of Los Angeles County will typically cost between $10 and $30 per person.

Central Los Angeles Comedy Clubs

Beverly Grove
Improv Comedy Club
The club known as the Improv Hollywood is actually situated west of Hollywood and south of West Hollywood in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles. The original Improv comedy club was founded in New York's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood in 1963 by Bud Friedman. His second Improv Club, known as "Improve Hollywood" was opened at at its current location in 1974, on a site that was formerly the famous Ash Grove folk music club (1958-1973) founded by Ed Pearl. Improve Hollywood is considered by some to be in the Fairfax District, but it is actually located west of that district, in the Beverly Grove neighborhood, at 8162 Melrose Avenue.

The Groundlings improvisional comedy troupe, the Groundlings Theater, and the Groundlings Improve School are all located at theater at 7307 Melrose Avenue in the Fairfax District of the city of Los Angeles.

Hollywood
IO West Improv Comedy
Formerly known as the Improv Olympic West. Home of the Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival. Features live improv and sketch comedy performances and also offers improv training classes. The original IO Theater was founded in the 1980's in Chicago and the Los Angeles club was opened in 1997. The LA club was first opened inside the Stella Adler Theater on Hollywood Boulevard, and later moved to the Complex Theater on Santa Monica Boulevard. The club moved to its current location at 6366 Hollywood Boulevard in 2000.

West Hollywood Hills
The Comedy Store
Comedy nightclub that first opened in April of 1972 by comedians Sammy Shore and Rudy LeLuca in a building formerly the home of Ciro's nightclub and later a rock and roll venue. The club originally had 99 seats but after Sammy's wife Mitzi Shore began operating the club in 1973, she bought the building and expanded it to seat 450 people. The Comedy Store is located in the West Hollywood Hills, near the border of West Hollywood, at 8433 Sunset Boulevard, on the north side of the street just west of Laurel Avenue.

This Laugh Factory Comedy Club loation is actually situated west of Hollywood and north of West Hollywood City, in the West Hollywood Hills neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles, at 8001 Sunse3t Boulevard.

Located at 151 South Pine Avenue in the coastal city of Long Beach, between Rainbow Harbor and the downtown district of Long Beach. Long Beach is the southern-most of the Los Angeles County Beach cities and it is adjacent to the Orange County border.

Jon Lovitz Comedy Club (2009-2014) CLOSED
Comedian John Lovitz' comedy club at the Universal CityWalk dining and enterainemnt complex first opened in May of 2009 as the John Lovitz Comedy Theater, and in 2011 it was renamed the John Lovitz Comedy Club and Podcast Theater. and it closed in November of 2014 after a lawsuit related to a dispute withthe club's manager was dismissed by mutual agreement.

Acme Comedy Theaters
Improvision and sketch comedy theater founded by M.D. Sweeny as the Two roads Theater in Studio City in 1989. At that time the house performers were known as the Two Roads Players, and later the Tujunga Group. Sweeney later moved the theater to its current North Northwood location and opened a second location on La Brea Avenue. Sweeney sold the theater to Travis Oats in 2004.

Laugh Factory Comedy Clubs
There are two Laugh Factory venues in Los Angeles County, one on Sunset Boulevard in the West Hollywood Hills and the other on Pine Avenue between Downtown Long Beach and Rainbow Harbor. Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended and higher priced VIP tickets will guarrantee seating.
